The Best Cities in the USA – Chicago
There are many cities in the USA, but as a tourist of course you won’t have time to see all of them, so it’s best to base yourself around one area and spend a few weeks there exploring everything there is to see.
One of the best places to go as a tourist in the USA is Chicago – also known as the “Windy City”, because of it’s skyscrapers and the high winds that can develop in the area.
Finding a place to stay
It’s not too hard to find a place to stay in Chicago, it really depends on your budget. You can stay at luxury hotels in the downtown area or youth hostels on the edge of town. One of the best places to stay is also one of the oldest and most loved in Chicago – The Drake Hotel. The establishment has stood since the 1920s and has a rich history and some of the best food available in the area too. If you go around Christmas time, then the hotel is transformed into a beautifully decorated place that looks like a winter wonderland.
Another great place to stay is the Palmer House Hilton. Again, this hotel is one of the oldest and has been modernized according to Hilton’s world class standards.
Things to do
There are many things to do in Chicago and simply not enough time to do them all. As one of the best cities, it has very tall skyscrapers. One of the most famous is the Sears Tower which is the tallest building in the United States. The building was completed in 1973 and is 108 stories high. Tourists can go up to the observation deck and experience both stunning views of Chicago and the Great Lakes, as well as something truly frightening – the building sways from side to side on windy days!.
A trip to Chicago wouldn’t be complete without seeing the Cubs or the Bulls in action. Seeing some of the best baseball and basketball players live in their home town playing a game is truly a memorable experience.
If sports are not your thing then perhaps the cultured life will get you excited. Chicago is home to the world famous Chicago Art Institute, which was founded in 1879. The museum has a collection of art that goes back 5,000 years in human history collected from all over the world. Not only this, but the museum also has a graduate program which is renowned as one of the best in the entire world.
Party time
Staying in Chicago wouldn’t be complete without exploring some of the nightlife. The world’s premier comedy theatre and school of improvisation is located in Chicago – The Second City. In addition to this, Chicago is famed for its music scene – from Jazz, to Reggae, to Classical and everything in between. You can find live shows, the best bars, the best cafes and the best restaurants very easily all over Chicago.
